What is Medicines Use Review (MUR)?

A review of your medicines to ensure you are receiving the maximum benefit from them.

An opportunity to discuss, with the pharmacist, that your medicines are the best ones for you and that they are working and if they are causing any unnecessary side effects.

It is also a chance for you to ask any questions you have about your medicines.

The aim of the service is to support GPs in maximising the benefits for their patients from prescribed medicines.

How does the service work and what will you needed to do?

It is good practice to have your medicines reviewed at least once a year.

Your pharmacist is specially trained on how medicines work and will conduct the review.

A member of the pharmacy team will arrange an appointment at your convenience.

When attending the review, please bring along all your medicines including tablets, liquids, inhalers, creams and ointments.  Please also bring any over the counter remedies with you.

You may also want to make a list of questions you may want to ask about your medicines such as,- how do they work?, how do I know they are helping me?, do I still need to take them?, why do I have to take so many pills?, what side effects do they cause?, how safe are they?.

If there is someone who helps you manage medicines, such as a family member, you may find it helpful to bring them to the review with you.

The review will last approximately 15-20 minutes and is free of charge.

Your GP has been informed of the service and the final decision to take forward any recommendations rests with you and your GP.
