Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) we have an obligation to make
sure that patients eligible under the Act for help will receive the appropriate service.
The Act defines a diabled person as “someone with physical or mental impaiment,
which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his ability to carry out
normal day-to-day activities”. In order to determine whether a patient is eligible
for support under the DDA, the patient needs to fill an assessment form. Please
ask pharmacy staff for details. If the patient is eligible for support, there are
a number of aids and devices available including reminder charts, medicines administration
charts, non-CRC containers, monitored dosage systems etc.
